Chapter 0: Man vs. Beast serves as a linear prologue to Serious Sam 4, throwing players into a large-scale battle alongside Earth Defense Force soldiers. Players move forward, defeat hordes of enemy forces with heavy firepower, and face a massive beast before a cutscene ends the chapter.
Unlike later levels, this opening chapter contains no side missions, skill points, secrets, or collectible dossiers. Players can focus entirely on linear combat objectives and earning specific combat achievements before transitioning to the first full level of the game.
Man vs. Beast is the short opening chapter of Serious Sam 4. It serves mainly as an introduction to the game and throws you straight into the middle of a huge battle against Mental’s forces.
There isn’t much to explore here, so you can simply focus on following the battlefield and taking down anything that gets in your way.
Start of the Battle
After the opening sequence, you’ll find yourself in the middle of a massive battle. Earth Defense Force soldiers are fighting alongside Sam against Mental’s army.
Move forward with the other soldiers and start taking out the enemies in front of you. There are plenty of enemies around, but you have a powerful weapon and a large amount of ammunition, so don’t worry too much about conserving ammo.
Keep pushing forward through the battlefield. You’ll encounter several groups of enemies along the way. Just keep firing and follow the general direction of the other soldiers.
Keep Moving Forward
The level is very straightforward. There are no puzzles or complicated objectives to worry about.
As you continue through the battlefield, more enemies will appear. Take them down and keep moving forward.
If you’re going for the “Say Hello To My Mini Friend” achievement, this is also a good place to work toward it. You need to spend 1,000 Minigun rounds while continuously firing. You can simply stay in place for a while and hold down the trigger when you have enough enemies around.
The Beast
Eventually, you’ll encounter a huge creature during the battle. There’s no special strategy required here — continue fighting until the story sequence takes over.
Sam is eventually knocked unconscious by the creature, bringing the chapter to an end.
After the cutscene, Chapter 0: Man vs. Beast is complete.
Side Missions
There are no side missions in Man vs. Beast. The chapter is purely a linear prologue, so there is nothing you can miss here.
Skill Points
There are no S.A.M. skill points to collect in this chapter. Skill-point collectibles begin appearing from the first proper level, Death from Above.
